Lima, February 21, 2025. Peru still has the opportunity to continue finding new world-class deposits in the Andes. This was stated by Adán Pino, member of the organizing committee of the International Congress of Prospectors and Explorers (proEXPLO 2025), during the special Mining Thursday (Jueves Minero) dedicated to “proEXPLO - ‘Discovering mineral resources for a better world’, organized by the Peruvian Institute of Mining Engineers (IIMP).

The geological engineer asserted that our country maintains a high prospectivity, it has a very varied geology, a space to introduce new ideas that allow us to find exploration opportunities and lead to these new discoveries.

“In Peru we have several magmatic arcs that have formed in the Andes Mountains over time and most of them are fertile and with evidence of mineralization,” he told the audience.

In this sense, he pointed out that the country has a confirmed endowment of minerals, which gives it potential for the development of the industry and for exploration activities, standing out at a global level. “This makes Peru a competitive destination for mining investment,” said Adán Pino.

“If you look at the numbers, the country in its entire mining history has produced 160 million ounces of gold, of which, 100 million are in the Miocene arc, mainly in the North. It also has 50 million tons of fine copper content, of which 25 million tons have been produced in the Paleocene arc,” he said.

Pino highlighted that Peru as a mining country has a disruptive history, demonstrated between the 1980s and 1990s, when the Yanacocha mining district was discovered. “We still do not fully understand the evolution of the Andes, of the different arcs present in the country. The Peruvian geologist is a curious individual, he or she is creative and seeks to break paradigms,” he said at the IIMP event.

What's next

In another moment, Pino described as enriching the experience of being part of the organizing committee of proEXPLO 2025, as the person in charge of the technical program.

“We have sought to maintain a high standard for the mining event and to maintain the position it has today at the regional level. We aim to provide the community of explorers and prospectors with knowledge, experience and best practices so that we can get closer to the discoveries that the country needs,” he said.

proEXPLO 2025, organized by the IIMP, will bring together prestigious national and international exhibitors from May 5 to 7, who will offer a series of conferences and keynote speeches on the main trends in prospecting, exploration, investment and development of mining projects.

As part of the program, the best technical papers will be presented and a technological and commercial exhibition fair will be open to attendees.

“All the papers we have received are of very good quality; it has been a titanic job. We convened a series of reviewers not only from Peru but also from the Andean region and managed to involve geologists with 25 years of experience in exploration of different commodities. You will find papers on the use of artificial intelligence in exploration and data management, the use of seismic tomography,” he said.
